## "'Why Do Pandas Have So Little Sex?' Representations of Giant Panda Reproduction in Zoo Captive-Breeding Programs"

### Speaker: Meg Perret, 2022-23 MHC Postdoctoral Fellow

### Respondent: Karen Thornber

[Meg Perret](/people/meg-perret) (she/they) completed her Ph.D. in History of Science with a secondary field in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies from [Harvard University](https://histsci.fas.harvard.edu/people/meg-perret). Her areas of expertise are environmental humanities; science and technology studies; and feminist theory. She researches how cultural ideas of race, gender, and sexuality influence how scientists frame their research on environmental issues, and, conversely, how scientific rhetoric shapes broader cultural discussions about the future of humanity and nature. She is a researcher with the interdisciplinary feminist laboratory, the Harvard [GenderSci Lab](https://www.genderscilab.org/), and an activist with the intersectional climate justice organization, [Our Climate Voices](https://www.ourclimatevoices.org/).

[Karen L. Thornber](https://complit.fas.harvard.edu/people/karen-thornber) is Harry Tuchman Levin Professor in Literature and Professor of East Asian Languages and Civilizations. Her research and teaching focus on the medical/health humanities, the environmental humanities, gender, empire, inequality, indigeneities, transculturation, and trauma, as these relate to world literatures and the literatures and cultures of East Asia (Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan), as well as the literatures and cultures of the Indian Ocean Rim (Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia) and more recently the Pacific Rim.

*Registration is required for this event.*
