*Memory Burn*: Czech author Marek Torčík discusses his prize-winning memoir with Jonathan Bolton and Veronika Tuckerova, Department of Slavic Languages in Literatures

### About the Speaker

Marek Torčík (1993) is a poet, novelist and journalist. He lives in Prague, where he studied English literature and culture at Charles University. His poetry collection *Rhizomy (Rhizomes)* was published in 2016. His novel *Memory Burn (Rozložíš paměť)*, delves into the aftermath of trauma and meticulously examines the way memory shapes who we are and how we perceive others; it earned Torčík the Jiří Orten Award and the Magnesia Litera Award for Prose (2024). English translation was published in 2025.
