 An investigation into conceptions of particularity in James Joyce's Ulysses. While the novel encourages readers to see analogies and connections between numerous disparate things, the writing form places an emphasis at least as strong on the particular; the ineradicably different.

###  About the Speaker

 Adam Parkes specializes in British, Irish, and American literature from the late nineteenth century to the twenty-first. He is the author of *Modernism and the Aristocracy: Monsters of English Privilege* (2023), *A Sense of Shock: The Impact of Impressionism on Modern British and Irish Writing* (Oxford, 2011) and *Modernism and the Theater of Censorship* (1996).
