###  About the Speakers

 [Nadifa Mohamed](https://literature.britishcouncil.org/writer/nadifa-mohamed) is the author of *Black Mamba Boy* (FSG), which won the Betty Trask Prize and was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Prize, and [*The Orchard of Lost Souls* ](https://www.harvard.com/book/the_orchard_of_lost_souls_a_novel/)(FSG), which won the Prix Albert Bernard and was shortlisted for the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. In 2013 she was selected as one of Granta’s "Best of Young British Novelists." Her novel *The Fortune Men,* published by Viking UK and Knopf in the US, was a finalist for The Man Booker Prize.

 [Maya Jasanoff](https://ces.fas.harvard.edu/people/000062-maya-jasanoff) is X.D. and Nancy Yang Professor of Arts and Sciences and Coolidge Professor of History at Harvard University and resident faculty at the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES). Her most recent book is *[The Dawn Watch: Joseph Conrad in a Global World](https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/315029/the-dawn-watch-by-maya-jasanoff/)*.
