Before joining Rutgers, she was Lecturer on History and Literature at Harvard. Her book The Space of Disappearance: A Narrative Commons in the Ruins of State Terror was published by SUNY Press in 2020. Her collection of poems, the deering hour, is forthcoming from Ornithopter Press later this year.

In this talk, Karen Elizabeth Bishop revisits her 2016 collection, Cartographies of Exile: A New Spatial Literacy, to consider the constitutive relationship between exile and map-making, ask what kinds of maps exiles make, and examine the ways in which the cartographical necessity of exile challenges how we conceive of and practice mapping. Bishop will parse, in particular, how cartography is leveraged on the page and on the ground by late twentieth- and twenty-first century poets from around the globe in order to represent and shape the contemporary splintered, contested exilic condition.

	How To Join

Please add your name and email address to this registration page. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with a Zoom link and passcode to the event.

If you have any questions, please contact Katharina Piechocki at kpiechocki@fas.harvard.edu
