DESCRIPTION:<h2>	<img alt="bowls of berries, leaves, and petals" height="324" src="https://static.hwpi.harvard.edu/files/styles/os_files_xxlarge/public/mahindra/files/nativecultures.jpg?m=1587750230&amp;itok=gzYn7LOR" title="" width="900"></h2><h2>	<a href="internal:/native-cultures-americas" title="">NATIVE CULTURES OF THE AMERICAS</a></h2><h2>	SPEAKER: Mary McNeil, Harvard University, Trinity College</h2><p>	Building upon Indigenous geographer and literary scholar Mishauna Goeman’s concept of “remapping,” this talk utilizes family history to trace Afro-Indigenous identity, migration, and belonging in Massachusetts during the Black Power/Red Power era.</p><p>	<strong>Mary McNeil</strong> is a PhD candidate in American Studies at Harvard University and an Ann Plato Dissertation fellow at Trinity College. Her research interests sit at the intersections of Native American and Indigenous studies, Black studies, social history, geography, and Black and Indigenous feminisms. Keenly invested in public humanities, Mary is currently a board member of the Royall House and Slave Quarters and on the advisory council of the Mellon “Just Futures” funded initiative, “Reimagining New England Histories: Historical Injustice, Sovereignty and Freedom.” Mary’s research and study has been supported by the Institute for the Recruitment of Teachers (IRT), the Mellon Foundation, the Charles Warren Center, the Schlesinger Library, the Consortium for Faculty Diversity in Liberal Arts Colleges, and the Harvard University Native American Program (HUNAP).
