DESCRIPTION:<h2><a href="/rethinking-translation">RETHINKING TRANSLATION</a></h2><h2>SPEAKER:&nbsp;<span>Damion Searls</span>, <span>Literary Translator</span></h2><p><span>Damion Searls will speak to the MHC Rethinking Translation seminar about his recent book, </span><em><span>The Philosophy of Translation</span></em><span> (Yale, November 2024), a bold new statement about what literary translators do and why through fresh, jargon-free reflections on translation theory and philosophy. This talk is co-sponsored by the Department of Philosophy, the Department in Comparative Literature, and the Secondary Field in Translation Studies, with the assistance of the Provost's Fund.</span></p><h3><span>About the Speaker</span></h3><p><span>Damion Searls is a writer and translator from languages including German, Norwegian, French, and Dutch. He has worked on the oeuvres of authors including Jon Fosse, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Marcel Proust, Thomas Mann, Max Weber, and Ingeborg Bachmann. He has held the post of Distinguished Writer in Residence at Wesleyan University.</span></p>
