HAUSER FORUM FOR THE ARTS</a></h2><h2>Speaker:&nbsp;<span>Matías Tarnopolsky</span></h2><h2>in conversation with Suzannah Clark</h2><h3>About the Speakers</h3><p><a href="https://www.nyphil.org/about-us/artists/matias-tarnopolsky/"><span>Matías Tarnopolsky</span></a><span> was appointed President and CEO of the New York Philharmonic in January 2025, joining incoming Oscar L. Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Music and Artistic Director Designate Gustavo Dudamel to author a new chapter in the Orchestra’s rich history. Tarnopolsky previously served as president and CEO of The Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts, 2018–2024, working with Music and Artistic Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin to present vibrant, multi-genre programming across multiple venues. In Philadelphia Tarnopolsky forged a groundbreaking partnership between the world-renowned orchestra and the Kimmel Center, Inc. Tarnopolsky’s previous positions include executive and artistic director of Cal Performances at the University of California, Berkeley, and leadership roles at the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, and BBC Symphony orchestras. Born in Buenos Aires and raised in London, he was awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture, among other honors. Tarnopolsky serves on the Avery Fisher Artist Program’s executive committee, Advisory Council of the Tianjin Juilliard School, Pacific Harmony Foundation, and Viñoly Foundation.</span></p><p><a href="https://mahindrahumanities.harvard.edu/people/suzannah-clark">Suzannah Clark</a> is Director of the Mahindra Humanities Center and Morton B. Knafel Professor in the Department of Music. In 2019, she was named Harvard College Professor. Before joining Harvard in 2008, she was a don at Oxford and Tutorial Fellow of Merton College for eight years. She specializes in the music of Franz Schubert, the history of music theory, and medieval vernacular music of 12<sup>th</sup>- and 13<sup>th</sup>-century France. Her books include&nbsp;<em>Analyzing Schubert</em>&nbsp;(Cambridge University Press, 2011; pbk 2015) and co-edited volumes&nbsp;<em>Music Theory and Natural Order from the Renaissance to the Early Twentieth Century</em>&nbsp;(Cambridge University Press, 2001; pbk 2005),&nbsp;<em>Music in Time: Phenomenology, Perception, Performance</em>&nbsp;(Harvard Publications in Music, 2016), and&nbsp;<em>Citation and Authority in Medieval and Renaissance Musical Culture: Learning from the Learned</em>&nbsp;(Boydell &amp; Brewer, 2005).</p><h3>About the Series</h3><p>Established with the generous gift of Rita E.
