DESCRIPTION:<h2><a href="/seminars">MODERN GREEK STUDIES</a></h2><h2>SPEAKER:&nbsp;<span>Julia G Krivoruchko, University of Cambridge</span></h2><p><span>The tradition of translating from Hebrew into Greek is more than two thousand years old, with ancient translations monopolizing most of the researchers’ attention. This talk will address less known medieval and modern Judeo-Greek materials and discuss their composition, performance and transmission in view of the manuscript evidence and comparative data. The presentation will explore the place of Judeo-Greek Biblical translations in relation to textual corpora circulating within the communities and in wider society.</span></p><h3><span>About the speaker</span></h3><p><span>Dr. Julia G. Krivoruchko earned her Ph.D. in Classics (Ancient Greek Linguistics) from Moscow State University. She held academic positions and taught in various European, Israeli and British universities, including Hebrew University of Jerusalem, University of Cambridge and University of Oxford. Her scholarly interests span the history of Medieval and Modern Greek, Greek dialectology, Greek language contacts, lexical semantics, Jewish languages and linguistics, Byzantine Judaism, Biblical translations, and Judeo-Greek manuscriptology. She is an author of more than 70 publications, including articles, textbooks, electronic and conventional editions and datasets.</span></p><p><span><strong>Please email jiwang@g.harvard.edu for Zoom link and code of this event.</strong></span></p>
