THE LAST TWINS documentary film celebrates an unsung hero of the Holocaust, Erno “Zvi” Spiegel, who risked everything to save dozens of young twins in Auschwitz. It is a story of hope and the powerful impact we can make during difficult times. Directed by Emmy Award-winners Perri Peltz and Matthew O’Neill and narrated by Tony Award-winning actor Liev Schreiber. After film viewing, Judith Richter will be in Conversation with Romy Neumark, Israeli journalist, CJS Fellow and Harvard Modern Hebrew Preceptor. In honor of Yom HaShoah - Holocaust Remembrance Day.
About the speakers
Dr. Judith Richter, a cardiologist and medical device entrepreneur, was born in Czechoslovakia to Holocaust survivors and immigrated to Israel at two years of age. She created the film, "The Last Twins" about her father, Erno "Tsvi Spiegel, to make sure the stories of the Holocaust are not forgotten including the power of making ethical choices.
Before joining Harvard as a Nieman Fellow in 2023, Romy Neumark was a senior anchor at KAN, the Israeli public broadcasting media outlet. She created and hosted the daily “Night News” on television and a weekly radio interview show. Previously, she reported in-depth magazine stories and anchored news programs for prominent Israeli outlets like Channel 10 News, Galei Tzahal radio station, and the digital version of Ma’ariv newspaper.
She currently teaches Modern Hebrew at Harvard, brining over two decades of experience in Israeli journalism to her classes. Students benefit from her hands-on approach, deep understanding of modern Hebrew culture, and expertise in current events.
During the 2023-2024 academic year, Romy Neumark served as the Gerard Weinstock Visiting Lecturer and Fellow at Harvard’s Center for Jewish Studies. In this role, she conducted research on diversity-focused journalism training programs in Israel.
