Christina Wald

Christina Wald is Professor of English Literature and Literary Theory at the University of Konstanz, Germany. During the 2009-10 academic year, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Mahindra Humanities Center at Harvard University where she also taught in the History & Literature Programm. Her research focuses on contemporary drama, performance, film, and TV series as well as early modern drama and prose fiction. She is the author of Hysteria, Trauma and Melancholia: Performative Maladies in Contemporary Anglophone Drama (Palgrave 2007) and The Reformation of Romance: The Eucharist, Disguise and Foreign Fashion in Early Modern Prose Fiction (de Gruyter 2014) and has co-edited several books, among them The Literature of Melancholia: Early Modern to Postmodern (Palgrave 2011) and English and American Studies: Theory and Practice (Metzler 2012). She is co-editor of the Journal of Contemporary Drama in English (JCDE) and served as a member of the executive board of the German Shakespeare Association since 2011-2017. In the academic year 2017-2018, she is fellow of the Institute for Advanced Study Konstanz, where she is working on a project entitled “Shakespeare’s Serial Returns,” which charts the relation between Shakespeare’s plays and current complex TV series.
